Rachel – 2014

Hi Gwyneth, I wanted to thank you for your natural birth ‘coaching’ – both in the pre-natal yoga and the hypnobirthing classes. My labour was much quicker this time (6 hours from waters breaking to birth) and although I can’t say that it was pain-free, I was able to use the relaxation, breathing and visualisation techniques, as well as yoga and active birth positions, to manage the surges and stay focused and calm throughout. My experience of the ‘pain’ was completely different to my first child’s birth, and more like feeling intensity, as you had described. I was expecting things to move a lot slower, so by the time we got to the hospital I was already getting the urge to push, starting pushing in birth suite reception and I only had a few more surges and pushes in the birth suite and she was out (5 minutes after arriving at hospital!) It was quite amazing. I think we were all a bit stunned to be holding our baby girl so quickly and without any long drawn out labour. My only ‘regret’ (although it’s not regret at all really!) is that I didn’t have time get in the tub for a water birth! Following the birth, I felt energised and alert, ready to bond with my baby and fully take in the experience. It was lovely to be able to be fully present for this special time. Again, I’m sure this was due to the fact that I hadn’t fought the labour and had been able to relax my body and calm my mind. So, thank you so much for your classes and gentle coaching. My partner and I both truly believe that this helped us to have the natural, simple birth that we were wanting. I look forward to joining the post-natal mums and bubs yoga when we’re ready J Many thanks and blessings,
